Daybook #3

Outside my window... the ground is still covered with snow. looks like we'll be getting freezing rain later this week.
I am thinking... that I do way too much "thinking" and "planning" and not enough"doing". I'll think about something months in advance and still end up doing things at the last minute.
I am thankful for... parents who come to visit us and bring groceries and McDonald's for lunch. Thank you Mom and
Hev!
From the learning room... we'll be trying out the new math program with Chatterbox today.
From the kitchen... lots of cake! Two birthday boys
in the next two weeks. (my godson and Mr. Funny)
I am creating...
-thank you cards. I'd really like to mark this off sometime soon. I had great plans of making homemade cards with the
kids but that is why they haven't been done yet. I think I'll just have to write in pre-made cards and maybe have the kids draw a picture.
-plans for a Sponge Bob cake for godson and a Star Wars cake for Funny.
-birthday plans for Mr. Funny
-plans for a St. Valentine's Day Tea Party with the kids
-Valentines
I am read
ing... The Diary of Saint Faustina and Rolling Stones
I am hoping... that OT will end soon.
I am praying... for Teresa
and for a very close friend who just told me some very big news.
I am hearing... Math-U-See DVD. It's teaching Mr. Funny his math lesson. I l
ove this program. I'm also listening to Chatterbox teaching Tickles his letters. She loves to teach him!
Around the house..
. way too much STUFF. Working on the kids rooms this week.
One of my favorite things... snow days. I wish the forecast of freezing rain would turn into snow instead.
Living the Liturgical Year... Today is St. John Bosco's feast day! He liked to juggle when he was a boy so we will take Waltzing Matilda's idea and
make Bachelor Buttons to represent his juggling balls! Also this week, Candlemas. This will officially close the Christmas season. I'm still trying to gather up some candles to bring to the Mass
to have them blessed.
Little Miss Sunshine this week... she's crawling!! I now have a little shadow. ;) I love
looking down and seeing her smiling face look up at me, just waiting for me to pick her up. And when I do, kicking legs and claps of excitement. How blessed I am to be loved so much.
Netflix Movie Review... We watched The Painted Veil this week. Well, I watched it this week. mike fell asleep. We saw this movie the year it came out
and Mike really liked it. I didn't care for it too much because it involved adultery. But Mike wanted to watch it again so we got it from Netflix. I'm so glad we did because I really enjoyed it this time. I w
as able to look past the adulterous affair, and appreciate the growth and repentance in Naomi Watts'
character.

Snow Day!

Yes! We finally got a snow day! But boy has it caused a lot of trouble for those who have to commute.
Yesterday was very worrisome as I wondered if Mike would make it home. His boss gave the option of leaving at the normal time or you staying to work the OT. I was very glad Mike decided to leave because I heard so many horrible stories about people who were trying to get home yesterday! His boss started home after OT and eventually had to turn around. He ended up sleeping in his truck at the job! My poor cousin sat and sat and sat in traffic and ended up running out of gas. She didn't get home until 3AM and then had to go back to work today! I can't even imagine...
So when Mike finally made it home (after having to walk up our mountain because his car was covered in snow at the park and ride and he didn't think he'd get the car up anyway) all was right in the world and I could finally relax and enjoy the snow. It looks so beautiful as it falls and I love how the how world seems to go silent. It's so peaceful. The kids talked about having Daddy home to go sledding and how fun it would be. But then this morning, Mike's friend, who he carpools with, called and said he was going to work. So Mike felt obligated to do the same. When Chatterbox woke up, I heard her go into my bedroom and then she ran into the kitchen and asked me, "Where's Dad?" After telling her he had to go to work I saw her eyes tear up. I gave her a hug and told her we would still go sledding. "But I really wanted to play in the snow with Dad." He really wanted to play in the snow too. He was really hoping we'd get enough snow to keep him home. "Dad works really hard for us", she said. I suggested we make his favorite cookies and surprise him when he got home. "And make him a card that says he's the best daddy!" Good plan, Chatterbox.
I love snow days! They make winter a little more joyful, don't you think?
When the boys woke up and all the kids saw the amount of snow outside, I said with excitement, "Snow day! No school!" My children looked at me with frowns and said, "Awwww. Why no school?" These kids love to learn. It made this homeschooling mama very happy. But then I reminded them about sledding and they decided it would be alright to go one day without school. ;)
We had fun outside. This is the perfect snowman snow. But I'm terrible at making snowmen! Mike's not working OT today so hopefully it doesn't take too long to recover his car from the park and ride and he can play outside with the kids before it gets dark. And make a snowman!
Little Miss Sunshine LOVES the snow! Just the sight of it makes her happy. As soon as we went outside, she starting clapping her hands and saying, "Yay!" It's so cute! She never stopped smiling and I could hear her making all kinds of happy noises. Who knew snow would be so exciting to a baby?
Well, we're off to drink hot chocolate and make cookies and then snuggle up under blankets on the couch and read a book. Hope you all are safe and warm!

Daybook #2

Outside my window... coooooooold. It is currently 8 degrees. Lots of cold and still no snow. Weather Channel talked about snow coming on Tuesday. I was counting down the days... now they are saying it will be a high of 50 degrees tomorrow and that we'll be getting rain. How is this possible?
I am thinking... about how hard it is to run a household without Mike's help. When is over time gonna be over? (and how do those military wives do it?) We'll see how long we can eat off the stuff in our pantry. I don't see a grocery store trip coming any time soon.
I have to watch the Steelers in the Super Bowl? GO GREEN BAY!
I am thankful for... a husband who works long and hard and still comes home and plays with the kids.
From the learning rooms... just bought a new
book last week. Very inspiring! Great things are going to be happening in Bosco-Seton Academy.
(our little name we gave ourselves.) If only I had some alone time to actually plan and prepare....
From the kitchen... I have no idea. There are no menu plans this week. I should have gone grocery shopping last week. I'll be searching the freezer and pantry for ideas. This should be interesting.
I am creating...
-thank you
cards. (Christmas was a month ago? What?)
-lesson plans.
-birthday plans for Mr. Funny
I am read
ing... The Diary of Saint Faustina and For the Love of Literature
I am hoping... that Chatterbox like the new writing program I got. We'll start today. I'm also hoping that her new Math program will come soon! I love getting books and school materials in the mail!
I am praying... for Teresa and for a very close friend who just told me some very big news.
I am hearing... heat blowing through the vents. I thank God (and Mr. Hev!) that we have this new heating system. It was definitely worth the hot months we went through without AC. (And if you're wondering, the kids are asleep. Which is why I don't hear them.)
Around the house... way too much STUFF. We're in the middle of down sizing and organizing. This will be an on going project. I've been working on cleaning out our "classroom", which is now going to be the "storage/craft room". And I put together a "learning station" in the basement by the computer. We'll see how this works out. I didn't get even half of what I hoped to accomplish last week, but a little at a time with have to suffice.
One of my favorite things... watching Sunshine laugh hysterically at Tickles.
A few plans for the rest of the week: Finish organizing our new areas in the basement.
Little Miss Sunshine this week: She moved one knee forward yesterday! Until she learns to
keep them moving, she scoots and wriggles to get where she wants to go. And let me tell you... she is one determined little person. When she sees something she wants, she will try to get it. No matter how many times you move her away or try to distract her with something else. God help me. ;)
Netflix Movie Review: We watched The Other Guys this week. I laughed a few times. But those laughs weren't worth the rest of its stupidity. It was also way too long. I was glad when
it finally ended.

My First Daybook

Outside my window... cold, windy and a little bit of snow. We keep getting little teasers. Where's the real snow?
I am thinking... about how thankful I am to have my mother around. Happy Birthday, Mom!
I am thankful for... see above.
From the learning rooms... I just bought a new spelling program and so far so good. (All About Spelling)
From the kitchen... tonight is one of Mike's favorites. Pork Loin, yeast rolls and mashed potato casserole. Work has been extra hard, long and cold this week so I'm hoping this will help warm him up and relax when he walks through the door.
I am creating...
-christmas cards. Can you believe it? I still haven't sent them all out! I've considered dropping it all together but I've already printed out the pictures and I already have the cards so...
-thank you cards.
-lesson plans.
-gift for my Mom.
-birthday plans for Mr. Funny
I am reading...
The Diary of Saint Faustina and probably will be for awhile...this is a big one.
I am hoping... that Mike can make it up the mountain.
I am hearing... the kids playing Star Wars. (Chatterbox as Leia, Funny as Luke and Tickles as Darth Vader. (not his choice)
Around the house... way too
much STUFF. We're in the middle of down sizing and organizing.
One of my favorite things... having a bookworm for a daughter. We got her The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for Christmas. She read it in two nights.
A few plans for the rest of the week: Clean the kids rooms, find a way to organize toys, celebrate my moms birthday and finish up all the things I'm creating.
Little Miss Sunshine this week: Getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth. Should have a crawler soon!
Here is a picture thought I am
